Heir typically has an older and more familial connotation, though it is still used. Usually only for particularly powerful or wealthy people though. "She was the heir to her father's estate." "Inheritor" sounds like a very legal term. I've never heard it outside of that context. Anyone that receives proceeds from someone's estate is an inheritor. An heir is usually the person that receives the lion's share of an estate. (HiNative)
